I believe we were able to produce a title that maintains all the fun of the original versions while providing players with a powered-up version of both Monster Rancher and Monster Rancher 2. I think this has really only increased how much fun you can have with the game now. This database we developed includes roughly 600,000 songs and players can freely choose from any of them in order to obtain monsters. There won’t be any big surprises, but the new song database will meet the needs of the current generation of players by bringing all the fun back that everyone had with the original titles in the 90s, but without the need to use physical CDs. Or will there be surprises with the database as well?

That uniqueness, those surprises like in the course of the series with Dead or Alive or Harry Potter, for example, that’s hard to transfer to a database. In the originals, there was a great fascination around using CDs with the games. I am hoping that we can similarly reach a larger audience globally with this new title.
In Japan, many younger players picked up the ports of Monster Farm and Monster Farm 2 we released previously, and they had a lot of fun playing it. We chose to bring back these two titles as we are approaching the 25th anniversary of the Monster Rancher series in 2022 and we received a lot of feedback from fans asking us to bring back the series.
Why did you choose Monster Rancher? Is it just because of the birthday? What potential do you see? There are also features like inserting any CDs, that have to be extensively changed for the re-releases Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX.
Many of the later games were not even released in Europe. Not only are the last popular games many years old. Monster Rancher is not exactly a brand that suggests itself as a revival project. With Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX they will reissue the popular originals and publish them for Nintendo Switch, PC-Steam and iOS. Originally a Japanese only tournament, this tournament will mark the first world tournament for the series with players able to upload their save data to the game servers from anywhere in the world to see whose monster reigns supreme.On December 9th, Koei Tecmo will revive the Monster Rancher series. In addition, players will be able to show off their monster raising abilities post-launch in the Monster Koushien World Battle, a special tournament that will allow fans of the series to discover who is the number one player in the world. The new release adds further new content to make the titles even more enjoyable, including Training Records to help with raising monsters, rankings for random battles, and a Fast Forward mode to speed up the gameplay. Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX features the complete versions of both games, with the inclusion of content that never originally appeared in the original Western launch, such as additional save slots, Freeze slots, Monster Hall of Fame slots, and 27 additional monsters. Players will then raise their monsters and train them to compete against other eccentric creatures in combat and tournaments – each with their own attributes and abilities – allowing players to find the perfect companion to secure their victory! The beloved titles allow players to birth monsters from their favourite music, using an online database to choose the album they desire, with each album birthing its own monster. In celebration of the series 25th anniversary, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX bundles together the fan-favourite Monster Rancher 1 (1997) and Monster Rancher 2 (1999) and brings them to modern hardware for the first time. A launch trailer was also released to celebrate the return of the series, with a special message from the Monster Rancher series Executive Producer, Kazumi Fujita.
